ABOUT ABOUT

Tom Prasada-Rao is returning to our Series.  He’s one of our favorites!  In demand at clubs and festivals all over the country, Tom has been a main stage act, and has won numerous awards, ever since he first appeared on the scene in the early ‘90s.  His rhythmic guitar playing and beautiful singing evoke an R & B feel, while his songwriting is nothing short of extraordinary.  Tom spent eight years as the songwriting teacher at UVa’s Young Writers Workshops.  Born in Ethiopia of Indian parents and raised in Washington DC., Tom won the Washington Area Music Awards (WAMA) Best Male Vocalist 10 years in a row.  He’s also the winner of the prestigious New Folk Songwriting Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.  Tom has performed with the likes of Janis Ian, Peter Yarrow, Michael Hedges, Ani Difranco, Odetta, David Wilcox, and Richie Havens.

Tom Prasada-Rao is a rare and brilliant performer. His fine voice and thrilling guitar work hold you spellbound while he heals your heart — David Wilcox, Singer-Songwriter

A virtual world music ensemble rolled into one guy. His voice weaves incantations, and the guitar is a magic wand in the hands of this extraordinary musician — The Takoma Park Folk Festival
