ABOUT ABOUT

Pat Alger is coming to Charlottesville, VA to play a concert for The Songmaker Series (Concert ticket information is below), and while he's here he'll be hosting a Songwriting Workshop, the afternoon of the show.  He is songwriting royalty.  Pat has well over 20 Americana & Country hits to his credit, including eight # 1 songs.

Early in his career, he had played with the Woodstock Mountains Revue.  This loose-knit group also included, at one time or another, John Sebastian, Paul Butterfield, Maria Muldaur, and Eric Andersen.  Pat arrived in Nashville in 1981, and his career skyrocketed.  The Everly Brothers chose him as their opening act in 1984, and he toured with them for four years.  But he really began to gain recognition as a songwriter with the release of Nanci Griffith's third album, “Once In A Very Blue Moon”, in 1985.

Pat’s songs have been recorded by Nanci Griffith ("Once In A Very Blue Moon", "Lone Star State of Mind", & “Goin’ Gone”), Dolly Parton, Brenda Lee, The Everly Brothers, Lyle Lovett, Crystal Gayle, & Peter, Paul & Mary, among many others.  He has written Top 10 country hits for Kathy Mattea ("Goin' Gone", "She Came From Fort Worth" & "A Few Good Things Remain"), Garth Brooks ("Unanswered Prayers", "What She's Doing Now", "The Thunder Rolls, & "That Summer"), Hal Ketchum ("Small Town Saturday Night"), Don Williams ("True Love") and Trisha Yearwood ("Like We Never Had A Broken Heart").

Awards

In 1991, Pat was voted Songwriter of the Year by the Nashville Songwriter's Association International, and the same year he was voted Jukebox Songwriter of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, ASCAP.  In 1992, he received the Country Songwriter of the Year award from ASCAP.  Country Music Association gave him two Triple Play awards given to those who have three number one hits in a year.  In 2010, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and he was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2013.

We are very lucky to have him offer to host a Songwriting Workshop for us, and we're excited!  The Workshop will be held in a cabin, on a beautiful property in the country, 25 minutes west of Charlottesville.  The cost is $50, and advanced registration is required.  Space is limited to 13 participants.  The Workshop is for people who already have some experience with songwriting.  Everyone will be asked to bring a complete song.  In such an intimate setting, there will be time for personal interaction, as well as time for Pat to critique and offer suggestions specifically.  An outline for the Workshop will be provided to each participant.  We hope you'll be able to attend this once in a lifetime event.
